Danika

I need a reason to escape and cooking seems like the perfect way to do that. “Dani, is this really a good idea?” Link asks me as I enter the kitchen with him. “Smells get to you at times, do you want Tig asking questions or thinking you're ill?”

“I just needed a minute to breathe, Link. God, I didn’t get to see him in the hospital like everyone else did. Seeing him so weak and vulnerable just kind of got to me.” I plop down on the kitchen chair and look over at where Tig and his parents are sitting. Link walks over to where I’m at and crouches down on the balls of his feet. He’s now eye level with me as he reaches out and grabs my hands with his own. “It’s just hard, knowing that I have his baby growing inside of me and not being able to tell him the truth.”

“I know the doctors said it’d be a bad idea to share this type of news with him, yet. But it’ll happen soon, Dani, I promise. Until then, we just need to offer him our support and friendship and hope that all of his memories return. In the meantime, I’ve got you,” Link states as he squeezes my hands in a show of encouragement.

“Thanks, Link, I don’t know what I’d do without you. You’ve been the one person I’ve been able to count on these past few weeks. No matter what my moods or feelings have been, you’ve become my rock. My person. My confidante. It just means more to me than words can express.”

“Dani, you never need to feel the need to thank me for being there for you. That’s what a man does for the woman he cares deeply for. No matter what happens, I’ll always be here for you. Now, what do you think your stomach could handle right now?” He asks me.

As I think about it, I tell him what I’ve been craving all damn day, “I would really love some scrambled eggs, bacon and toast.”

“How does breakfast sound to everyone?” Link calls out.

“You read my mind, man,” Tig calls back, “I’d love to eat some real fucking eggs instead of that powder shit they call eggs at the hospital.” Link and I both crack a smile when he proclaims this.

“Eggs, bacon and toast coming right up,” Link informs everyone. As he stands up, he plants a kiss on the top of my head then walks back over to the stove.
